There are now three very popular Amazon Kindle’s on the market, the Kindle 1, Kindle 2 and of course the latest release the Kindle DX. So which one should you choose?
Frequently Asked Questions about the Kindle
Which is a better buy – The Kindle 1 or the Kindle 2?
In terms of price only there really isn’t a lot of different in buying a Kindle 1 or Kindle 2 (as of writing the price difference is only about $50) so unless you can get a cheap used Kindle 1 somewhere for under $100, for the price you are much better going with the Kindle 2.
The Kindle 2 fixes and improves on some of the issues that customers were having with the original ebook reader. It’s faster and it uses the 3G wireless connection so you can download books in more places (they have a better wireless coverage than the 1st Kindle uses).
And of course the Kindle 2 can hold 1500 books (compared to just 200 on the Kindle 1)
Can the Kindle 2 enlarge the font size for books so I can read them easier?
Yes, the Kindle 2 comes with 6 different font sizes and you can adjust the text according to your reading preferences.
Is the Kindle DX worth the extra money over the Kindle 2?
It really depends on how much you think you would use it, and what you want to use it for. Generally both Kindle’s don’t differ much except that the Kindle DX holds many more books, is larger and thus has a bigger screen to read from and contains native PDF support.
If you read alot of newspapers on your Kindle then the DX would be better because you can have more of the ‘page’ on the screen but if you plan on only using it for a few books then the Kindle 2 will be good enough.
