The very first Amazon Kindle 1 is still going strong in sales, although mostly through refurbished and used Kindle’s.
It was revolutionary for it’s time even though many other ebook readers were on the market (such as Sony’s reader which proved it’s toughest competition). However, it wasn’t until the original Kindle 1 arrived that regular book readers started to look at it seriously. Prior to that only techie’s and gadget lovers wanted an electronic ebook reader.
The biggest boost for the Kindle came however when Oprah announced it on her show as one of her favorite things.
It’s now been 2 years since the Kindle 1 was first introduced (on Nov 19, 2007) and that day marked a milestone in ebook history with it selling out in just 5 hours.

Video about the Kindle 1 – Demonstration Video
Here is the video that was released on November 19, 2007 showing the ‘new’ Amazon Kindle eBook reader. The quality is a little bad (it is on YouTube after all) but it explains all the features and benefits of the Kindle pretty well along with a demonstration of how it works.
