There is lots of talk about Amazon releasing a Kindle 3 just in time for Christmas, but is this rumour true or is this secret Kindle 3 just the Kindle DX in disguise?
Well all of the talk about the Kindle 3 started pretty much as soon as the Kindle 2 was released and has continued since then but what many people don’t realise is that the Kindle 3 has already been released – it’s called the Kindle DX.
Yes it’s true – the third Kindle is already here. All of the plans that Amazon had for an improved Kindle such as large 9.7″ screen, the ability to read PDF’s directly and auto rotating screen are those that the Kindle DX have.
The Kindle DX, which was released on June 10, 2009 is the most expensive of the Kindle’s and also the largest (both in terms of size and storage capacity). While Amazon had high hopes for the DX, it’s the Kindle 2 that is still the winner in terms of sales to date.
Of course that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any more Kindle’s in the works. Many features such as full colour ink (for picture books and comics) and touchscreen technology are still desired by users but have yet to be introduced in the Amazon ebook readers.
In fact the company seems to have ideas of eventually creating an ‘all in one’ mini laptop replacement device built into future Kindle’s. Of course this will happen over time as new features are introduced so don’t expect such a technological advancement next year or even probably any time soon.
But it’s very possible that in the future there may be more readers that become that latest ‘must have’ gadget but it’s unlikely that they will be here in time for this Christmas. Perhaps we will hear more next year?
